The c also has a smaller but pleasingly bright screen, with a 2.

As one ought to expect, Acer provides everything you need to get going straight out of the box. Speaking of pockets, the c is really very small — even smaller than the P which was by no means large — weighing just grams with dimensions of 58 x x The front of the unit is set in shiny black plastic, with a 5-way joystick surrounded by four shortcuts keys for accessing key functions such as Contacts and Calendar.

The joystick in particular is nice and responsive reflecting the excellent build quality of the unit in general. Around the edge is a matt silver lining, which nicely complements the shiny black facia whilst the back is finished in matt black plastic with a small but sufficiently loud speaker at the top.

On the bottom edge is a mini-USB port that doubles up as a charging port whilst the right edge houses the SD Card slot, which also supports SDIO for expandable functionality, and a recessed reset button just above it. Finally, the stylus and headphone jack are located on the top edge, and overall the c is a very sleek, well built, unit. As a GPS unit, the c is a solid performer.

Since it uses the same software as the P, it does however suffer from the some of the same weaknesses. Although the POI Points of Interest system works well enough when left alone, the search function is rather poorly laid out and lacks drop down menus. Another feature that could do with some refinement, or simply updating, is the traffic camera warning system. As an example of its inaccuracy, CoPilot would often warn me about a camera covering the opposite direction of traffic on my way to work but would then fail to warn me again when returning home on the same road.

Moreover, it offers plenty of flexibility with several different views and a walking mode should you ever need it. This is good though as it enables you to see the route quite far ahead. At the top of the screen, the time to the next junction and an arrow indicating the direction of the turn-off is displayed and as you approach a junction an icon showing the direction of the next turn flashes up on the screen for a few seconds.

At the bottom, the current road, ETA to destination and the latitude and longitude is displayed. Preseting his all at once would be better. At the bottom right is a bar indicating the signal strength and pressing this brings up a 3D representation of the connections to the satellites.

Destinator claims that its route calculation algorithms are smarter than competing software and I did see some evidence of that during testing. The software mapped a quicker route by mapping a few smart shortcuts compared to the TomTomGo which I had set up in the car at the same time.

However, overall the TomTom Go provided a much smoother navigation experience. The Destinator software always called out the next step at yards from the next junction, which was too soon. The software also wanted me to talk a U-turn as I travelled down a road even though the route displayed was telling me to bear left.

The biggest overall issue I faced though was the fact that the hardware would often fail to find a GPS signal. So would I buy the Acer N35? We test every mobile phone we review thoroughly.
